(CNN) -- An Egyptian court sentenced 529 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to death Monday on charges related to violent riots in the southern Egyptian city of Minya in August, including murdering a police officer, according to state-run news website EgyNews.
The riots took place in the aftermath of security forces' deadly crackdown on two large sit-ins in Cairo, where demonstrated supported ousted President Mohammed Morsy.
Not all of the 529 defendants are in custody, according to EgyNews.
The court also acquitted 16 other defendants.
