An Interview With Blacktribe Yung Chief, Nigeria's US Based Artist

Nigerian Artist, Blacktribe Yung Chief, is raving at the moment with his brand of music, which is really rocking the clubs in the US. Yung Chief who debuted with his Hit Track, “American Wonder”. Although not yet in the market, Naija Chit-Chat had the opportunity of having an Exclusive with this young Artist who is sure to go places.

May we know you?

My real name is Daniel Nwankwo, however my Stage name is Blacktribe Yung Chief

How long have you been into music and what propelled you into it?

I have been in music for 13 years, however not full time because I still got some other things to run around for to keep body and soul together. But one thing now is that I am in it for real and on the verge of taking over the industry with my style and flavor.

What style or genre do you do?

It’s what I call “Cross Over”; my music relates to every race, tribe or creed and not just for African. It’s a total musical brand that is created to soothe one’s soul.

Tell us, what message are you trying to bring into the already saturated music field?

Right now, my message is a youthful blend specifically targeted to that group for example in my track, “American Wonder”, it brings to light the American Dream where as a young man you come to the country with noting and end up wit plenty. America is the land of opportunity. So it’s an expression of what awaits me in the beautiful land. Also the young at heart. As long as you can move your body, while grabbing the message, then it’s for you!

What challenges do you face as an African Artists in the United States?

I sing in my Nigerian dialect, English and blend it with Pidgin; this is challenging as opposed to an Artist who sings in just a language. But the good thing is that those who do not really understand the language still dance to my style because music is a universal language.

The major challenge I see as an Artist is getting the right Label to sign me on without being Hawkish and exploitative. I want to be able to give myself a thumbs up for an acceptable music.

So how has your music been doing in the markets?

I am yet to officially release an Album to the market, what I do presenting is what I call, “Testing the Microphone”. Hopefully very soon, one will be out. What I have done are just demos in other to keep me out there.

Any message to your fans?

I love them and appreciate their support. I have a secret coming out soon!

Thank you for doing this interview.

No, thank you for having me!
